GDayX Reaction Paper

Last Saturday, November 23, a convention was held in Xavier School called “G dayX: Riding the Technology Wave,” in which several google representatives and ambassadors came and oriented people about the different facets of technology that have been developed and will continue to be improved, for business utilization.

The first talk I attended taught me that YouTube does not only serve the purpose of entertainment, but can also be used grow and popularize one’s own business enterprise. The speaker, Trixie Canivel told us that google is much more widely used around the world, and in the Philippines, than most of us are aware of, being connected to almost every single social networking site online and the number 2 search engine in the internet. We were showed several examples of youtube channels not only selling products, but using these channels to build their own unique brand and developing rapport with their viewers.  This talk opened my eyes at the many uses of YouTube in marketing a product through online presence.

Blogging, on the other hand, is all about directing traffic to your site, as the speaker of the next talk, Kring Elenzano, creator and writer on successful websites sexyfunny.ph and mykoreanboyfriend.com, shared with us. The key to direct traffic to your blog is very simple: write well and write often. With more pages, there are more chances to be “shared” and more opportunities to hold influences over readers in order to market for your enterprise. She gives us the main advantages of the blogging platform. In creating awareness and sales, giving info to readers, and highlighting the specialties of your brand, keeping and maintaining a proper blog can yield several benefits. For Ms. Elenzano, she was able to partner with other businesses such a “Analog Soul,” and gain a following in Korea. Great writing, as time has proven again and again, is still a lucrative skill.

In terms of safety, the last talk I attended definitely gave me the most important points. Speaker Aileen Apolo explains how google, in particular, Google Maps/ Google Earth, can mean the difference between life and death at a time of disaster and calamity. She brought up current technologies such as “person finder,” where google can locate a lost person using whatever it can retrieve from the google database, and google’s utilization of vector data, in order to map shelter locations, and other needed facilities. With crisis maps, the goal is to make urgent and basic needs accessible through geographical mapping. Our country needs such technology, as we are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. We have been ravaged by typhoons and will continue to be, and so it an uplifting thought that such advancements are being used to prevent catastrophe.

Reaction Paper for GDayX: Riding the Technology Wave

On the 23rd of November, the Google Business Group Community held the “GdayX Philippines” at the Angelo King Multi-Purpose Center, Xavier School. This event was free and open to everyone interested on how they could use technology for their businesses and anyone who hast the enthusiasm to learn. It aims to inform the business audience on the latest business technologies available and offered by Google.
I had the chance to attend this very useful event. The sessions that I was able to join were “Google Places and Mapping for Business,” “Blogging for your Business,” and “Introduction to Google Analytics.” The speakers were from Google and some business owners who are at the same time bloggers.
“Google Places and Mapping for Business” was handled by Mr. JR Padilla from Google Developer Groups Dagupan. He explained first how the Google Maps works. This is really beneficial for those who are just starting out and even for those who are already in the business for quite some time. The Google Maps was just newly updated this year. In here, everyone could search establishments and even explore the place. You could also put your business on the map with the use of Map Maker. With this, it will be easy for the mass to locate your place. They could also leave reviews about their experience in your place. This will be more advantageous for places which are hard to reach.
The next session was about “Blogging for Your Business” by Mr. Fitz Villafuerte, a business and finance blogger. This was informative and at the same time inspiring. He tackled on how to blog and how blogging will help your business flourish. Mr. Villafuerte was jolly and convincing. I am sure every business owners present there had some second thoughts on why did they not think about putting up a blog in the first place. In your blog, your goal is to connect with your target customers. You may not think about it, but you have many things to say. Your blog should have timely information. The info should more likely to have something connected to your business. You are not obliged to have a new post every time, but you should have consistency when posting. The heaviness of the content should also be according to the span of time you have not updated your blog. You can also have a blog with Google.
The third session would be “Introduction to Google Analytics” by Mr. Maro Rimorin, a blogger and digital strategist. To be honest, I did not get a lot of information from this session because in my age, I would not make use much of it though it will greatly aid entrepreneurs on maintaining their websites. In here, visitors of your website can be seen, where did they come from, how many returned, how long did they stay on your page and whatnot. The effectiveness of your website will be seen here. You can make ways on how to improve it when you see what the problem is.

Truly, it was not a waste of time travelling from Diliman all the way to San Juan City. The Google staff were all warm and welcoming. The place itself was appropriate and made the people comfortable. The speakers were really entertaining and were all open for queries. It is good to have such worthwhile events that supports both amateur and professional businessmen in expanding and developing their business with the use of latest innovations in our technology.

Reaction Paper: GDayx Philippines

Reaction Paper: GDayx Philippines

Last November 23, 2013, Saturday, we attended an event titled GDayx Philippines held at Xavier School. It was sponsored by Google and the Digital World. Several sessions were conducted by different speakers with topics about Google and its features that can help us in different situations and circumstances. Google maps for crisis, Google maps for business, and blogs for business are the three topics that we chose to hear. Even if we were not required to attend this event, I am glad we went.

It is important to have seminars like this for they are very helpful and informative. For instance, google maps for crisis. It was discussed how can be Google maps be used as a big help in aiding problems and supporting people that were affected by floods and other natural calamities. The next topic is Google maps for business. The speaker showed that it would be nice to have your business in the Google maps so that other people can look for it.  Google map maker was also introduced and I think businessmen would really love it for it would be beneficial to their business and it is free! Blogs for business was enjoyable because the speaker himself was also having fun with his talk to the audience.  He showed a business blog for his friend’s business and it was good and not just valuable to the owner but also to the customer that would like to see the business. Putting business in blogs is just a great idea. Of course blog making is free in Google.

The topics that were discussed are mostly about for businessmen or for people at their age. I think that it would nice if they included topics that are suitable for students like us too; Google features that will be a great help and new learnings for me and to students at my age. Although time will come that we can already use the things and ideas in the GDayx event.

But all in all I think that the seminar is not a waste of time for me and all the other listeners. I learned more about Google, its features and how can it be more helpful to people. And that, really, is enough for me to say that it was a worthy event to be attended by people.

Reaction Paper- GDAYX

GDAYX is an activity organized by Google Business Group. It was held at Xavier School in San Juan. The said activity was like a mini conference composed of seven talks from each different speakers invited. It aims to promote the Google tools and how it can be a big help in your business, as a social platform and during emergencies.

This activity, I could say, is a very educational and informative one. It is educational because, it introduced to us, audience, the different Google tools and how it could be a big help to businessmen and students. Example of the tool being explained is the Google Drive. This is a very helpful tool in sharing files to others. It is also easy to use and very efficient way of uploading files and documents and sharing it to others. The process is also fast and simple. The conference also gave us insight about how YouTube could be a big help to business. YouTube is the no.1 website for video sharing and billions of people visit it everyday. Thus, it is a very valuable platform of introducing and growing your business. Its process is quick and not complicated. Another one is about blogging and business. It is another way of introducing your business thru online. This process is easy. You will just create a website where you could write something about your business. I also found the conference interesting and exciting. It did not bore me for it really introduces new and awesome tools to assist students like me. The Google tools also show how advanced the technology is nowadays. The GDAYSX is totally an edifying conference about the latest Google Tools. Moreover, since the processes are easy to do, many people could use it such as students, businessmen or ordinary people as long as they have access to the internet.
