Imelda Marcos Reaction Paper

Imelda Marcos, born in 1929, and wedded to one of the most famous presidents of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos. The woman who married a man after 11 days of meeting him. The woman who was considered the mother of the Philippines at the time. There can be endless ways to introduce this woman to the public.

The documentary that featured Imelda Marcos, was very biased. It showed everything that was good about Imelda. All of the works she did for the country, all of her contributions. It presented her as someone who came from a somewhat unknown background, that suddenly sprung out into fame and power. Once she transferred to Manila, she became the muse of the place. She was also so proud of everything that she did. It was as if she didn't do anything wrong.

On the other hand, it also showed interviews of people who were critics of Imelda Marcos, and here you could finally see the flip side of the coin. You could finally see that Imelda wasn't this fairy god parent that could grant the all of the wishes of the Phlippine nation. For example, if Imelda thought that her collection of shoes was the best thing ever, others perceived at as being too over the top and a waste of money. She has 5 pairs of the same shoe design for crying out loud. Another would be that Imelda found it so sweet how Marcos chose her to be his wife out of the many women out there. However it was clear to others that Marcos chose her for the public support he would get for his presidency and that she would work as a great "ornament" for his presidency.

Imelda Marcos isn't this perfect ball of goodness that came down from heaven. Sure she could have a massive shoe collection, be the wife of a president, and have (had) the prettiest face in town, but it most certainly doesn't mean that she is the best.
