There is probably no need to
make an introduction to one of Philippines’ most prominent first lady that
there ever was. But for the sake of this reaction paper, I would do it.
Imelda Marcos was born on
July 2, 1929 in Manila, Philippines as Imelda Remedios Visitacion Romualdez.
She was previously married to Ferdinand Marcos. She is a mother of three. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (aka "Bong Bong"), born September 13,
1957; Imee, born November 12, 1955; and Irene, September 16, 1960. Also has an
adopted daughter, Aimee.
After watching the movie, one line keeps on
ringing on my mind. “I’m very simple…” This was said by no other than Imelda
Marcos herself during one of the interviews in the film. This definition of
simple is comparative. For her, simple is the perfect word that describes how
she lived her life here on Earth.
The movie was done very well. The creators of
the film did an amazing research about different facts about her. They have
chosen the best people to share their insights, from Imelda’s childhood
friends, teachers, to the journalists and even to her dress maker. The film
achieved its goal in presenting Mrs. Marcos both in the view of the Filipino
citizens, people around the world and Imelda herself.
One thing that is very noticeable about Imelda
is how she values beauty and how it is important not only to her but for the
society. She keeps on pointing out how one’s perception about beauty could change
his/her direction in life. This part about her makes me want to question her
sanity. Though I know how intelligent Imelda really is, I just wish that she
used it properly in order to improve our country and not worsen the situation.
She has the ability of a great leader but not the heart of a good one.
